Let's get to the Root of this.

Farm to table is a concept I can get behind. Supporting local businesses/artists/producers of goods is something that is very important to me.

Recently, I had a meal (and then another) at Root Kitchen here in Chattanooga. This eatery is all about farm to table. Post meal, I am all about this establishment. Everything was divine.

I had lunch at Root one afternoon with my mother, and then promptly returned the following Sunday for brunch with my best friend. Both meals were stellar.

Want to find a place in your area to try some farm to table food? I love to use Urbanspoon to discover new places for great food at home and on the road. They also have a "features" tab you can use that includes farm to table as one of the categories. It is a very helpful tool and there is also a mobile app!

Now let's get down to business.

What did I eat?

My mother and I often dine family style. We order two (or three) things and then share them. At Root, we ordered a Smoked Salmon BLT and a Grilled Chicken Flatbread.

Everything was so fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere also really sets everything off. The room is full of natural light, beautiful wood textures and fresh flowers.

Root Kitchen also boasts that most of the fare used in their menu comes from less than 100 miles away! AWESOME!

Grilled Chicken Flatbread - with basil and arugula pesto, mariniated tomatoes and hand-pulled mozzarella

Smoked Salmon BLT - cold smoked salmon, applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, Lee and Gordan leaf lettuce, and herb aioli on grilled rye bread

The sweet potato chips are also made in-house!

Lunch was so good I came back for brunch! There was a local band playing and it was the greatest!

Also mimosas are just $1 and they will make you a double for $2.

What did I eat?

Salmon Benedict - cold smoked salmon, heirloom tomato and dill crème

SO GOOD. This was also my first poached egg experience. I usually order the eggs on my Benedict scrambled because I am not a fan of runny yellows, but this was perfect.

Obviously, I am obsessed with smoked salmon. My relationship with it and champagne are two of the longest I have ever had. hehe.
