I know what you're thinking. "My grandmother wears brooches." Yeah, yeah, yeah. Honestly, during the advent of embellishments, embroidery, and patches it seems like a natural time to appreciate what a nice little collection of brooches can bring to the table. Whether they're vintage or not, sometimes a little extra glitz is exactly what an outfit needs. Full disclosure: these brooches are from my local craft store, but every time I wear them I get SO many compliments. You'd never know they cost less than $10 collectively. I love a look for less.
One of my number style tips? Tailor an item to work for you. This dress was a maxi before I got my hands on it. I loved the tiny daisy print, the cut of the dress and the ruffle at the top but I didn't love the length. A little help from a seamstress and now this dress is one of my favorites. When you want to alter something small about an article of clothing, before you throw it out consider how inexpensive it might be to turn it into something amazing. In this case, it was well worth it and I will be rocking this dress all summer long.
I purchased this dress to wear to a springtime party. It was a little cool in the evening, but certainly not cool enough to wear a coat. Adding brooches to my favorite denim jacket was the perfect solution.
