Seriously Good: Tremont Tavern's The Isabella

Nestled along Hixon Pike is North Chattanooga's Tremont Tavern. A cool, local spot with a reputation for one of the best burgers in town. If you're not of the red meat eating variety, like myself, you may have worked your way around the menu and had some pretty good food - but, I will not be working my way around the menu any longer. Today I tried The Isabella - a grilled wrap with some seriously good stuff rolled up inside.

The best oatmeal cookies.

Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies will always make me think of being a kid. My mom used to make them for me all the time. I guess she figured I was going to eat sweets either way, so she might as well make them and add in some oats. She also made a habit out of substituting some of the sugar for apple sauce. Although I haven’t done that here, it does make for a lovely chewy cookie and is a good way to cut out some of the sugar.

Dutch baby.

Have you ever had a Dutch baby? Have you ever even heard of a Dutch baby? Until recently, I had no idea what a Dutch baby pancake was.

Honestly, I thought you had pancakes, you had waffles, and that was about it - when it comes to that family of foods. However, I am so happy to have been recently enlightened. Dutch babies are delicious. They are more eggy, and more filling than a normal pancake and less sweet. The best part? They are seriously built for toppings. Any toppings. Fruit, as I decided to give a whirl, savory toppings - cheese and mushroom is the next stop for me. I can’t wait to bake another on of these beauties in my skillet.
